Vets enjoy meaningful trek to Montana

Floating down the mighty Madison River to enjoy friendship and fantastic fly fishing amid one of the most majestic landscapes in the United States is an outing River Deep participants look forward to all year. The energy, care and safety preparations put into producing this weeklong trip based on the beautiful grounds of our nonprofit partner Camp Bullwheel in Ennis, Montana, can be lifesaving.

This year, Sept. 3-7, our five participating veterans from Operation TBI Freedom in Colorado, escorted by River Deep Foundation Board Member and Treasurer Chris Dundas, embarked on an adventure that was a great deal of fun and rewarding for all who attended. By day, Camp Bullwheel’s expert guides navigated the river and provided fishing instruction, and by night, they served up hearty dinners and plenty of fish (tall) tales around campfires.

The River Deep Foundation extends special thanks to Camp Bullwheel Founder and Executive Director Frank Bell, who donated the accommodating homestead and land that is Camp Builwheel, located just a stone’s throw from the river. River Deep also thanks  Camp Manager Peter Pauwels, who has supported River Deep for decades and ensures every detail of a successful and fun time in Montana. Camp Bullwheel provides wheelchair-accessible and state-of-the-art fishing equipment that give River Deep guests an opportunity to heal in a truly amazing setting.  For more information, visit CampBullwheel.org.
