Another grand time was had by everyone who joined us July 26 for a whole lot of fun with Colorado Youth Outdoors (CYO) on its beautiful, 220-acre Swift Ponds in Fort Collins. Like the River Deep Foundation, CYO promotes relationship-building through outdoor recreation. About 100 people enjoyed fishing — and fish tales — archery, scenic strolls around the property’s 12 ponds and a delicious lunch from Gondolier Italian Eatery.
Swift Ponds is especially well suited for our events because it is specially designed, equipped and staffed to help people with an array of health challenges enjoy the variety of recreational pursuits it offers. Our special thanks to the CYO staff, who provided friendly assistance and top-notch instruction in fishing and archery for our participants, who joined us from Craig Hospital and its Operation TBI Freedom program for military veterans and active-duty service members; the Ft. Carson Solider Recovery Unit; the Veterans Administration Hospital; and Paralyzed Veterans of America, a nonprofit that provides veterans living with spinal cord injury resources, including caregiver support, adaptive equipment, and job placement assistance for them and their caregivers.
Again this year, we also welcomed back our friends at Comeback Yoga, A Denver-based nonprofit that provides free in-person and online instruction to help military personnel and their family members develop resiliency in response to life circumstances, which may include post-traumatic stress.
And, as always, we’re grateful for the River Deep Foundation volunteers who help us with event coordination and production — right down to serving meals and cleaning up afterwards.
