Alliance Member Spotlight: ComeBack YoGA

The River Deep Alliance is an important aspect of our organization — and we invite you to learn more about this innovative collaboration among complementary nonprofits that work in their own ways to re-acclimate, re-enable and re-engage people with disabilities. Among them is Alliance member Comeback Yoga, which we also invite you to visit online at ComebackYoga.org.

Comeback Yoga serves veteran students, and proudly employs many yoga teachers who are veterans. In-person classes are offered in Colorado — and instruction also is accessed easily online seven days a week! You can find a schedule here and visit Comeback Yoga’s YouTube channel.

Consider two of Comeback Yoga’s classes taught by veterans: Buckley Space Force Base and Zenith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

  • Jim Ray, a U.S. Navy veteran, teaches at Buckley Space Force Base on Tuesday evenings. His students include active-duty military, veterans, and retirees.
  • Rob Williams, a U.S. Army veteran, teaches at Zenith Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Friday nights. His students include veterans, police officers, and first responders.

As you’ll hear in the video, Rob and Jim discuss the many benefits of yoga for veterans, including lower blood pressure, improved balance, and support with healing traumatic brain injuries. They also address some of the emotional benefits veterans can experience when they have a sense of community with other veterans — and especially with yoga teachers who also have served. Students often say they can relate better to their teachers and that they feel Comeback Yoga’s classes are designed especially for them.
