Fly Fishing with Anglers of Honor
10/3/2020
Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI HOP Location: Lincoln Hills Fly Fishing Club - Black Hawk, CO Participants: Operation TBI Freedom, Ft. Carson SRU Fly Fishing with Anglers of Honor This is our final fly fishing outing for the year. The stream is low and clear so the fishing will be a challenge. We start with the regular Anglers of Honor instruction. Next, everyone is given gear and assigned to guides. Most of the group today has not had experience fly fishing so they are excited to be in the stream! Regardless of the low water, everyone manages to put a fish or two in the net by lunchtime. A good, hot meal and some fish stories are perfect to round out this chilly day. Thanks so much to Lincoln Hills and all of the Anglers of Honor guides for another great season! And to all of the volunteers and other groups who help make these trips successful. Bob Adwar President, River Deep Foundation/ Anglers of Honor VP, SCI Humanitarian Outreach ![]()

Family, Fishing & Fun Day
9/26/2020
September 26, 2020 Location: Colorado Youth Outdoors, Windsor Colorado Hosted by: River Deep and SCI Humanitarian Outreach Program Participants: Operation TBI and Ft. Carson SRU Today we are at the beautiful Colorado Youth Outdoors Swift Ponds Facility in Northern Colorado that features many ponds, a 3-D archery course and trap shooting range. Over 100 veterans and active duty soldiers from Ft. Carson and their family members are attending today. This event is all about enjoying time outdoors in the sun, fishing, and connecting with each other. Today’s group will use everything from Snoopy rods for the kids to fly rods. Many of the adults and kids on this trip have never been fishing, so when they hook up with a fish for the first time it’s wonderful to see their expressions of amazement! We are thrilled to be able to provide this new experience. For lunch we are treated to a meaty feast provided and cooked up on a smoker by the All American Beef Battalion—ribeye steak, all beef hot dogs along with mashed potatoes, corn, chips and cookies! The food is fantastic and we are so grateful for their support and participation today. After lunch it’s time for some more fishing to round out the day. As with all our outings, we hope that our participants found a bit of peace today and were able to take one step closer to healing. And we hope they will join us again! We would like to thank all the volunteers and organizations that come together to make these large outings possible especially the staff from Belleview Spine and Wellness for volunteering with us today. They have a very helpful program that helps veterans and active duty soldiers achieve freedom from pain. We look forward to working together and sharing their program as a resource. Float Trip & Fly Fishing on the Colorado River August 16-19th, 2019 Location: Float Trip & Fly Fishing on the Colorado River, Kremmling, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital Sponsored by Bob & Debbie Dye along with Blue Quill Angler, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins We arrived last Friday afternoon in Kremmling, CO. We stayed at the Muddy Creek Cabins. Bob Dye, his guides and drift boats met us at 1:00PM. Some of the group went to a near by pond and fished from the boat, and the rest of the group enjoyed the scenery at the cabins. Later in the afternoon we gathered at the picnic area for a barbeque treat consisting of elk burgers and some great side dishes. This was donated and prepared by Andy, owner of the Highland Tavern in Denver. After dinner, we gathered around the fire pit, roasted marshmelllows, and got to know one another. Saturday morning, we met up at the Moose Cafe for breakfast, and then back at the cabin to meet the guides and 5 drift boats at 9:00AM. The guides had all the fly rods rigged up and ready to go as most of our group is new to fly fishing. After some instruction and attempts at catching some trout, the group was excited to enjoy floating down the Colorado River. The flies hit the river as everyone anxiously awaits a strike. It was a great day for everyone and fish were caught by all. After the float, we went back to the cabins for a short rest, and then headed into town for dinner. Afterwards, we were treated to Kremmling Demolition Derby. It was a great trip! Special thanks to all to everyone who helped make this trip a success! We are already looking forward to next year.
