Art Class - Landscape Painting

Date: Monday, January 4, 2020 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI HOP Location: Cottonwood Art Center - Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom We had another amazing night at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts. We are thrilled that Cottonwood has offered continued opportunities to hold classes safely for us. Now more than ever it’s important for our clients to stay engaged in life despite the isolation of the pandemic. Our instructor tonight was Ben Bires, who guided us on painting landscapes. Each student was able to choose from a selection of landscape photos to paint from and they all created an amazing masterpieces! It was an evening of fun and relaxation for all of the participants and their family member. ![]()

Art Class - Xmas Ornaments

Date: Monday, December 7, 2020 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI HOP Location: Cottonwood Art Center - Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom Art Class - Christmas Ornaments This is the final art class for the year and we are creating Christmas ornaments and cards. The group of veterans and family member attendees listened to Christmas music and made their festive holiday decorations. Our instructor, Annie Pieper, had a great setup with a bunch of good treats for the kiddos. Due to COVID safety guidelines, the dynamic of the year’s art classes has been a little bit different, but it didn’t stop anyone from enjoying themselves and learning new skills. We are excited to offer this opportunity to more clients and to keep more veterans and their families engaged in life during this especially trying time. ![]()

November 2, 2020 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI HOP Location: Cottonwood Art Center - Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom Art Class- Mola Designs We had 4 veterans and 5 family members attend great night at the Cottonwood Center of Arts learning about MOLA Design. We briefly learning about these designs, and their Indigenous Latin American origin. Each client had the opportunity of work their own “magical design”, and completed their masterpiece. September 14, 2020 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation and SCIHOP Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom Another fantastic evening at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts. We had 8 Veterans and family members learning the foundations of color mixing, composition, and brush-sketching as we have with the each of the four acrylic painting classes taught by Jess Preble. This time our landscape was about mountains and nature. We had a great time listening to music, eating pizza, and spending time with other Veterans and their family members. Next month we will move on to a new series of art. After a few months of staying at home this was a great way to start getting back to normal. Eight total people—Veterans and family members—attended this class. We are learning the foundations of color mixing, composition, and brush-sketching during each of four acrylic painting classes with Jess Preble. We can’t wait to see what Jess will bring us to do on our next class in July! ![]()
Art Class - Gold Leafing

March 9, 2020 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation and SCIHOP Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom On Monday March 9th we had the opportunity to spend an amazing time with a group of 13 veterans and family members at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts learning about Gold Leafing. Our instructor Annie Pieper taught all us how to transform an everyday object into a extraordinary sculpture using ancient the ancient technique of art gilding or gold leafing. The participants learned a little history about the whole process as well as different ideas or small home projects where they can apply the technique. Everyone had the opportunity to create a small piece art to take home. Learn to Paint Abstract Acrylic Paintings February 17, 2020 Location: Art Student’s League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & SCIHOP Participants: Craig Hospital Our instructor today is Karen Roehl. She starts with an overview of abstract acrylics and then passes out the supplies. Imagination, brushes and paint in hand, everyone goes to work. The variety of colors and drawings are limitless. Everyone is having a great time and at the end of the class will take home their own masterpiece. A big thank you to Karen and everyone at Art Students League of Denver. Zentangle Art Class Monday, February 10, 2020 Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts, Colorado Springs Hosted By: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI Humanitarian Outreach Program Participants: Operation TBI Freedom All of the participants, including 9 veterans and 2 family members, had an amazing time at Cottonwood Center for the Arts learning about Zentangle! Our instructor, Deb Prewitt introduced our clients to a few Zentangle drawing techniques and the philosophy behind this. Everyone enjoyed the opportunity to relax, focus and expand their imagination. Each person created a masterpiece to take home.
