Location: USAFA Equestrian Center, Colorado Springs, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Equine Assisted Learning It was another amazing day at the Air Force Academy! We had veterans and their family members learning about the benefits of Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) from our instructor, Jennie. She conducted a few series of EAL exercises to help our group understand more about this therapy and its benefits. It was also a little special for one of our family members. As with all of our EAL sessions, it was followed by a nice, enjoyable horseback ride. Location: Art Students League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Ft. Carson SRU, Craig Hospital, VA Art Class - Clay Workshop It was a fun class for all working with our hands, sculpting clay and creating whatever we happen to be feeling in the moment. As we get into shaping the clay, our instructor puts on some soothing music to relax and enhance our creativity. We finish our clay creations with paint, giving them even more depth and character. Each piece will be placed in the kiln and we will see the final finished pieces next week. A great class and a big thanks to our instructor Natalie and the staff at Art Students League of Denver. Location: RSS Outfitters, Limon, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Antelope Hunt Our day started out at sunrise and it was a beautiful way to begin. We were met by our guides who divided us into smaller groups to give each individual the best opportunity to fill their Antelope tags. And it worked out perfectly! Everyone was able to fill their tags and put some meat into their freezers. New skills were learned and new friends were made! Thank you to our guides Brad and Eli Weisensee, Scott Maranville, Lane Clavel and Russell Maclennan for securing the land vouchers and setting up the hunt. Our veterans had a memorable experience thanks to your time, effort and expertise. It was greatly appreciated by all! Location: Kilroy’s Workshop, Colorado Springs, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Ft. Carson SRU, Operation TBI Freedom, VA Blacksmithing Another amazing Saturday at Kilroy’s Workshop! Veterans attending learned the principles of blacksmithing in forging metal. We had several veterans from different organizations, including Operation TBI Freedom and the VA, who came to class accompanied by their family members. Everyone who attended had an opportunity to make their own knife to take home with them. It was a very enjoyable time and experience for all, especially the time shared with fellow veterans. Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Craig Hospital, VA, Ft Carson SRU, Operation TBI Freedom It is a beautiful fall day to be fly fishing on the creek and ponds at Lincoln Hills. Most of the participants are new to fly fishing so we start with the fundamentals—gear, knots and casting—taught by the expert guides from Front Range Anglers. Next, everyone pairs up with a guide and heads for the waters. We fish until lunchtime. The morning has been a success as everyone catches at least one trout and releases it back into the water. It’s been a great day. A big thanks to Lincoln Hills, Front Range Anglers, all the guides and volunteers as well as the Spice of Life for catering a fantastic lunch! Bob Adwar Executive Director, River Deep Foundation Chairman, SCI Humanitarian Outreach September 14, 2022 Location: Art Students League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Craig Hospital Participants choose images and color combinations from magazines to make a work of art that is soothing and calming. Everyone had a great time a big thanks to Robin our instructor and all of the ASLD staff for making it possible. September 10, 2022 Location: Colorado Youth Outdoors (CYO), Windsor, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Craig Hospital, Operation TBI Freedom, VA, Ft. Carson SRU Today brought us some much anticipated cooler weather, so clouds and the occasional drizzle was not enough to stop participants and their families from enjoying this day. Everyone spreads out across the facility to enjoy their favorite activity, be that fishing on their choice of ponds, or taking a stab at 3-D archery in which simulated wild animals are used as targets. The CYO archery instructors are there to make sure it it a safe, fun and instructional activity. River Deep guides and volunteers are there for any fisherman, big and small who need guidance. At lunchtime we gathered at the outdoor pavilion for rib-eye steak, hot dogs and sides dishes provided by and expertly cooked up by All American Beef Battalion. They always do an excellent feeding our crew and we are so grateful for their participation. It’s been a fantastic day. A big thanks to CYO and all the guides and volunteers that made this another memorable outing.

Location: Valhalla Hunt Club, Bennett, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom We had a beautiful sunny day to be out in the fields in search of doves, hoping to bring a few home for dinner! Hunting doves can be a bit like trying to hunt for shooting stars. Nonetheless, it provided everyone with the opportunity to enjoy being outdoors and catching up with old friends. Despite the challenges, everyone managed to go home with a dove or two for dinner and had a wonderful day overall. August 10, 2022
Location: Art Students League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Ft. Carson SRU, Craig Hospital, VA Art Class - Tooling Foil Fish What a fun class learning how to work with metal! We learned to trace a pattern—in this case a fish—onto a thin piece of metal and then how to add more detail such as scales and fins to give it more dimension. We then added a patina finish to the entire foil fish which gave it some old world charm. A big thanks to our instructor, Amy, and the Art Students League of Denver for making this a fun and inspirational class.
