Date: September 26-30, 2021 Location: Camp Bullwheel - Ennis, Montana Hosted by: River Deep & SCIHOP Participating Groups: Veterans from Operation TBI Freedom and Active Duty Soldiers from Ft. Carson Montana Float and Fishing Trip River Deep Foundation sent four veterans from Operation TBI Freedom and two active duty soldiers from FT Carson Colorado to Ennis Montana for some fly fishing down the Madison River. All of our anglers were able to use their new fly rods that were given to them by our Anglers of Honor program! The Madison River is known for its trout fishing and the beautiful landscapes it flows through. Rainbow and brown trout were plentiful and even a couple white fish were caught during their three days on the water! Not only did the participants catch fish but they were also able to photograph everything from eagles, ospreys, cranes, and deer all along the river basin. While on the trip, they even had the opportunity to do some exploring around Ennis and Virginia City. We want to give a BIG thank you to our host, Peter Pauwels and Camp Bullwheel for such a wonderful and relaxing trip! Needless to say we cant wait to make it back up there again in 2022! Date: August 12-14, 2021 Location: Kremmling, CO Hosted by: River Deep & SCIHOP Participating Groups: Craig Hospital Alumni Colorado River Float Trip and Fly Fishing with Blue Quill Anglers The group of former Craig Hospital patients (AKA Alumni) and the guide, Bob Dye, gathered at the Muddy Creek Cabins in Kremmling, Colorado for a meet and greet and dinner before embarking on the next day's adventure. In the morning, Bob prepared the other guides, boats, and fly rods for the group's scenic float trip down the Colorado River. The morning was nice and cool— a wonderful way to start the day! The river was calm and peaceful and the group was even able to catch some trout on the first day! The boats pulled onto a sand bank off the river to enjoy lunch together. After lunch, the group got back on the river, excited to catch more fish. At the end of the day we made it to the cabins for the night and the group shared their experiences on the river and talked about catching trout. It was a fun, relaxing trip for all who attended! A big thank you to Bob Dye, the guides, the volunteers, and Blue Quill Anglers! September 15th - 19th, 2019 Location: Camp Bullwheel, Ennis, MT. Hosted By: River Deep Foundation and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson Warrior Transition Battalion We had Soldiers and Veterans from Ft. Carson’s WTB, and Operation TBI Freedom who all traveled to Ennis, Montana for a Fish & Float Trip on the Madison River. This trip, we had to deal with the weather and the wind. Peter Pauwels and the guides he finds to volunteer with him, were still able to give us an amazing trip even though we only had one full day of fishing on the Madison. On our second day in Montana, we did like tourists do and we explored Ennis and the surrounding area. What a day we had learning about some of Montana’s rich history! Our Third day we found our way up into the mountains, as far as our vehicle would take us, to a spot where we parked so we could hike about half a mile to a small mountain lake. It was a beautiful little lake full of Cut bow trout. Everyone had a great time as we spent the entire day fishing and catching fish, after fish. These trips we do to Montana are absolutely amazing! The folks at Camp Bullwheel really do make this trip worthwhile, everything from the food to the guides and the stories, what a great place to make new friends and lasting memories. August 16-19th, 2019 Location: Float Trip & Fly Fishing on the Colorado River, Kremmling, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital Sponsored by Bob & Debbie Dye along with Blue Quill Angler, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins We arrived last Friday afternoon in Kremmling, CO. We stayed at the Muddy Creek Cabins. Bob Dye, his guides and drift boats met us at 1:00PM. Some of the group went to a near by pond and fished from the boat, and the rest of the group enjoyed the scenery at the cabins. Later in the afternoon we gathered at the picnic area for a barbeque treat consisting of elk burgers and some great side dishes. This was donated and prepared by Andy, owner of the Highland Tavern in Denver. After dinner, we gathered around the fire pit, roasted marshmelllows, and got to know one another. Saturday morning, we met up at the Moose Cafe for breakfast, and then back at the cabin to meet the guides and 5 drift boats at 9:00AM. The guides had all the fly rods rigged up and ready to go as most of our group is new to fly fishing. After some instruction and attempts at catching some trout, the group was excited to enjoy floating down the Colorado River. The flies hit the river as everyone anxiously awaits a strike. It was a great day for everyone and fish were caught by all. After the float, we went back to the cabins for a short rest, and then headed into town for dinner. Afterwards, we were treated to Kremmling Demolition Derby. It was a great trip, thanks to Bob and Debbie Dye, Blue Quill Anglers, Breckenridge Outfitters, Jim Neihbereger, Jeremy Hyatt, Chip Keith, John Perizzolo, who donated their time, Andy at Highland Tavern in Denver, and Muddy Creek Cabins. We are already looking forward to next year. Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
June 15th - 19th, 2019 Location: Camp BullWheel, Ennis, MT. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson WTB We had soliders and Veterans from Ft. Carson and Operation TBI who floated on the Madison River, which is challenging this time of the year because of the run-off. Fortunately, Peter Pauwels and the Camp BullWheel guides know the river and where the fish are. We were on the river for three days in search of trout. The rest of the time we were treated to good food and conversation at Camp BullWheel. The Montana trip was amazing! The people at Camp BullWheel had the best hospitality around. The town itself was a small county town, it was friendly and easy to navigate. Our favorite place to get souvenirs and drinks was Willie's Distillery. This was also a Veteran-ran business which made our guys feel right at home. Our trip was full of good times and great stories, with new life-long friends made. A big thanks to all the great people and guides at Camp BullWheel. Justin Hudson River Deep Alliance Bob Adwar River Deep Alliance, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
Date: August 26-31, 2018 Location: Camp Bullwheel, Ennis, MT. Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Montana Fish & Float Trip at Camp Bullwheel Arriving at Camp Bullwheel one can’t help but notice the picturesque valley surrounded by mountains. We are all ready for some time floating and fishing down the Madison River. Between the fishing, the views of the snow capped mountains, and the brisk water of the Madison River one can’t help but get lost in the scenery. We all took time to relax and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As one veteran said, this is a place to not only come and fish, but to relax, quiet your mind and fill your soul with the beauty of nature. Day 1: The weather didn’t want to cooperate, so we explored the town of Ennis Montana. We hit the jackpot with the Ennis hot springs. Days 2-4: We got in the river and launched our boats, three in all. Floating down the river was breathtaking as we watched bald eagles and ospreys do a little fishing for themselves. Catching fish was what we were there to do, and we were not disappointed. Everyone caught multiple fish. Day after day our fishing skills improved as we landed more and more fish - Brown Trout, Rainbows and Whitefish. We learned from our guides what to look for to find the fish, where we should cast, and they helped improve our casting skills. A huge thank you to our host Peter Pauwels and his crew at camp Bullwheel for the opportunity to spend time in such a beautiful place, the fly fishing instruction, and most importantly, the support they showed all of us veterans. We all left feeling confident in our abilities, to be able to take our rods and hit the waters of Colorado. Bob Adwar River Deep, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
