September 10th, 2019 Location: U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation, Colorado Springs, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom We had an amazing time last Tuesday at the U.S. Air Force Academy Equestrian Center, Remount Foundation. We had perfect weather for learning about equine assisted learning. This event taught us even more about Equine assisted learning / Recreational therapy, and it was so much fun. We had 9 veterans and 1 family member attend. We all observed how beneficial working with horses can be as help with our PTSD and TBI's. After spending some time grooming the horses and learning from our instructor, Jeanne Springer, we went for a nice long trail ride around the Air Force Academy. Carson WTB The River Deep Alliance just started our new program of equine assisted therapy/ recreational therapy, which provided veterans a chance to learn about equine assisted therapy. Jeanne Springer from Remount Foundation, and her staff started us with a simple herd observation and grooming exercise. We had a brief therapeutic discussion at the end of the exercise before getting ready for the trail ride. The trail ride was an amazing experience for all the participants even for those that had rode before. September 14th - November 30th, 2018 Location: Stable Strides, Colorado Springs, CO. Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI We just wrapped up an eight-week program of equine assisted therapy, or EAT, providing veterans a chance to try a new type of therapy. A therapy that brings your growing relationship with the horse to the forefront. Often, clients in EAT don't talk directly about problems, issues or fears, rather build a relationship with the horses to build social coping and relationship skills that can be generalized to their everyday relationships and struggles. The open group will focus on helping veterans learn and practice coping skills for symptoms of anxiety, PTSD and depression. Bob Adwar River Deep, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
