We had veterans from different organizations, such as Operation TBI Freedom, VA Hospital, and SRU. Everyone had an opportunity to make their own knife to take home with them. Everyone loved the experience and especially enjoyed the time with their fellow veterans. Carson SRU, TBI Freedom, VA Blacksmithing Great way to start the weekend with a group of veterans and family members learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing. Once again, our Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman, took his time to make sure everyone understood what to expect from the class. First they learned a little bit about the history of blacksmithing and put all the skills learned in practice. Each participant created a knife to take home. Carson SRU Blacksmithing Five veterans and two family members attended this month's Fundamentals of Blacksmithing class. Our Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman explained that while safety and details are important, they should not be an obstacle to having fun. First they learned a little bit about the history of blacksmithing and put all the demonstrated skills into practice for themselves, creating a small knife to take home. Date: November 20, 2021

Carson SRU Blacksmithing This blacksmith outing began with an interesting explanation of the history of blacksmithing! Ron Hardman, our Master Blacksmith, told the group of four veterans about how the first traces of the craft were from as early as 1500 BC. The group then had the opportunity to learn about how the process evolved into the blacksmithing skills Master Blacksmith Ron was showing them today! Everyone was excited to learn this new skill and apply it in the workshop with the help of Ron. The veterans participating in this outing successfully created a knife to take home! Everyone had a wonderful time. Carson SRU Blacksmithing This outing was another amazing blacksmith class with a group of veterans excited to learn about the fundamentals of blacksmithing. The Master Blacksmith of this class was Ron Hardman, who took the time to work with each student to ensure everyone understood the concepts of blacksmith. With his guidance, all of the participants were able to participate in the workshop. Ron demonstrated how to create a Viking knife; all of the veterans were excited to make one for themselves to take home! Carson SRU Blacksmithing This blacksmithing class was another fantastic time with a great group! Three veterans and one staff member from OTF, SRU had one cadre, and three active-duty members attend to learn about the fundamentals of this ancient process. Ron Hardman and his staff were top-notch, ensuring the veterans were in for a great class. They took their time to explain how to do everything and made sure each participant was safe. Blacksmithing instills in veterans a sense of warrior spirit—as to make something from raw material and turn it into a functional weapon. Everyone had a wonderful experience. First, Ron told the veterans about the history of blacksmithing, then he focused on demonstrating the multitude of skills required to be a blacksmith. Ron guided each participant in creating a knife to take home. All of the knives each participant made in the workshop were beautiful; they would make a great gift!
