Carson SRU Anglers of Honor We always look forward to being at historic Lincoln Hills. Before we adventured out to the creek and ponds, the instructors did an incredible job of demonstrating the fundamentals of fly fishing to all of the participants. Following the instruction, everyone was excited to jump into some waders and start fly fishing with their assigned guides. Fortunately, everyone fly fishing was able to catch a few trout. After a few hours, everyone gathered for a barbecue lunch and a tribute from Anglers of Honor to the veterans in attendance, which included receiving an Anglers of Honor fly rod! At the end of the day, everyone's expression made it clear this outing was a success! A big thank you to all of the guides and volunteers that made this incredible outing possible! Carson SRU, VA Fly Fishing with Anglers of Honor Today, the Boulder Creek and ponds were crystal clear, making it the perfect day for a fly fishing outing. The day began with an introduction to the fundamentals of fly fishing from our wonderful Anglers of Honor guides. The overview of how to fly fish was great, as most of the veterans in attendance today were fly fishing for their very first time! All of the participants were excited to learn a new skill as well as enjoy the healing aspect of sharing the outdoors with new friends and faces. After a busy morning in the creek, everyone in attendance enjoyed lunch with one another on the deck of the eco center. Everyone was ecstatic to share their fly fishing experiences with one another. All of the participant not only left with a new skill, but also an Anglers of Honor fly rod, so they can fish on their own in the future. Thank you to all of the veterans that turned out and to Lincoln Hills and the guides that made this outing a success! Carson SRU Anglers of Honor It was the first fly fishing outing of the year! With fast-moving waters and a cloudy sky, the veterans that participated were in for a challenge. First, the veterans spent time on the deck with the guides learning about the fundamentals of fly fishing. The guides demonstrated how to cast, use the gear, and tie knots. Following the demonstration, the veterans headed into the creek with their guides. Despite the challenging conditions, the veterans had a great time and were even able to catch a few trout! Carson Warrior Transition Battalion It's the final fishing outing for the year, and we have a packed house of people all ready to learn how to fly fish and try their luck on the ponds and streams of Lincoln Hills. We started with instruction on the basics, geared up and are assigned our guides for the day. Whether it's the stream or the pond, everyone had hookups with some big rainbow and cutthroat trout. After a morning of fishing, we gathered back at the deck of the eco center, and are treated to a fantastic BBQ lunch. It's been a great day and season with the Anglers of Honor program at Lincoln Hills. A big thanks to all the guides, volunteers and everyone who made it possible. Carson Warrior Transition Battalion We have a large and enthusiastic group ready to fish the creek and ponds of Lincoln Hills. We start with instruction from our expert guides, after that its time to put the waders on and head to the water. Everyone is having success whether in the creek or the pond, and the trout will all be released for another days' adventure. After a morning of fishing we head to the eco-center deck and enjoyed a delicious barbeque lunch from Jim N' Nicks and traded fish stories. Carson Warrior Transition Battalion Anglers of Honor at Lincoln Hills The creek is clear, the temperature cool with some clouds, and the pond is full of trout. We gathered at the eco-center deck for coffee and a light breakfast. Next, we broke up into three groups with some receiving basic fly fishing, instruction. We headed to the creek and the ponds with our guides. Everyone manages to put a trout or two in the net, and just as important, many are learning a new sport and having a great time. After a morning of fishing, we all gathered on the deck for lunch and fish stories. It's been a great day of fishing, learning, and making new friends. July 13th 2019 Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO. Hosted By: River Deep Alliance and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital & Operation TBI Freedom The sun is shining, the mountains are green and the creek is clear. We had a large group on Saturday, anxious to try their luck on the creek and pond. We had expert guides from the Anglers of Honor program. Most of the group were new to fly fishing and received instruction on casting, gear, and knots from the guides. We put the waders on and headed to the creek and pond with our guides. Family members and children were also on the pond trying their luck. We managed to put a few in the net, but more importantly everyone learned about fly fishing and had a great time. At lunchtime, we gathered on the eco-center deck that overlooks the pond. One of our favorites, Jim N' Nick's BBQ, delivered a delicous meal for all to enjoy. It's been a wonderful, beautiful day. Carson WTB Anglers of Honor at Lincoln Hills The river is running high and fast and the weather forecast predicted rain, so it's going to be a challenging day in the mountains, but no one seems to be worried. Everyone is at Lincoln Hills to fly fish, learn, and have a fun time. We started the morning with the fundamentals of fly fishing, next will be reviewing the gear, waiters and then pairing up with the guides. Some of the group will be fishing on the river and some will fish the ponds. The trout ended up in the nets and are released for another day. Everyone is having a wonderful time learning and fishing. Even a brief rain shower is ignored. It's time for lunch and we are having some great BBQ brought to us at Lincoln Hills by Jim N' Nick's BBQ. This is the first fishing outing of the season. The weather is perfect with the sun shining on the river and ponds. We have a large group of Anglers, most have never fly fished before and they are all excited to learn. Before we hit the water, we start with some fundamentals; casting, knots, and gear. Now its time to suit up and get paired with the guides of Anglers of Honor. Some will be in the river and others on the pond. Everyone is having a great time learning about fly fishing and catching fish at the same time. Its getting close to lunchtime and we will be enjoying some delicious bar-b-que from our friends at Jim N' Nicks. October 6, 2018 Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital, Ft. Carson WTB It is our last fly fishing outing of the season. The weather is overcast and cold, but everyone is dressed warm and anxious to fish. We started with some of the basics of fly fishing. Next comes the waders and gear. Each participant paired up with one of the guides and hit the river. The Craig Hospital participants will arrive shortly and will be fishing one of the ponds with patients and their family members. The fishing is challenging but we managed to land a few trout. It has been a great morning. We all headed up to the deck for a warm meal prepared by Jim & Nick's barbecue and exchanged fish stories. A big thanks to all the guides, volunteers, participants, organizations, Jim & Nicks barbecue and all the wonderful people who made this a great outing.
