Location: RMS Gear, Wheatridge, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital, VA Archery Instruction It’s always a great time at RMS Gear learning the fundamentals of archery using traditional recurve bows. Everyone had plenty of instruction and time to sling some arrows at the targets. We wrapped up at lunch with some great spaghetti from The Gondolier in Boulder. A big thanks to the staff at RMS Gear. Location: Kilroy’s Workshop, Colorado Springs, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Ft. Carson SRU, TBI Freedom, VA Blacksmithing Great way to start the weekend with a group of veterans and family members learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing. Once again, our Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman, took his time to make sure everyone understood what to expect from the class. First they learned a little bit about the history of blacksmithing and put all the skills learned in practice. Each participant created a knife to take home. Everyone had a wonderful time and they all took a masterpiece home. Jesus Guerra, CBIS Military Support Specialist, Operation TBI Freedom April 6, 2022
Location: Art Students League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Ft. Carson, Craig Hospital, VA Art Class - Introduction to Drawing We will be learning the basics of sketching using charcoal, a white canvas and the model of a bust. While it’s quite a challenge, it’s also a lot of fun. Everyone will go home with their own masterpiece! A big thanks to Emeka, our instructor, and the Art Students League of Denver. Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Art Class - Book Folding What a great night with a group of veterans and their families learning about book folding. This class was very interesting. Our instructor, Bonnie Nelson, taught us different ways and techniques to create amazing book folding designs. One interesting fact we learned is that book folding, until the middle of the 19th century, was a trade done by hand. We had a good time and everyone was able to take a book design home. Location: Valhalla Hunt Club, Bennett, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Craig Hospital Trap Shooting We are excited that Craig Hospital patients are able to get back out into the community again after the extended pandemic restrictions. All of the patients who participated in today's outing had previous experience shooting clays so they were ready to jump right in! After a few hours of enjoying this beautiful spring day we went to the clubhouse for a nice lunch and chance to visit. Thank you to the staff at Valhalla Hunt Club for another fantastic experience. Location: The Bluffs, Byers, CO Sponsored by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI and Ft. Carson SRU Pheasant Hunt It is sunny day with a nice breeze—perfect for spending time in the grassy fields of the Bluffs Hunt Club in Byers. We gather at the clubhouse for lunch and discuss what the group can expect from the afternoon hunt. Of course safety is first priority, but the day is also about enjoying time outdoors in the sun, and watching the hunting dogs at work —they love to discover and recover the pheasants! At the end of the day a few of us have some pheasants for dinner, but most importantly it’s been a wonderful chance to get out of the house and engage with new friends. A big thanks to everyone at The Bluffs. Date: March 12, 2022 Location: RMS Gear, Wheat Ridge, CO Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Craig Hospital, Ft. We have adaptive equipment on site to make the using the bow and arrow easier for individuals who have less mobility. We end the session with lunch for everyone and take this time to visit with one another. Thank you the RMS gear staff for your continued support of our programs. Date: March 7, 2022 Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Art Class - Still Life Painting Four veterans and four family members joined us for tonight's art class. We love to see family participating as it’s important to have loved ones engaged in the healing process. We worked with a new instructor tonight, Kevin Persaud. He walked us through the steps for painting a simple arrangement of objects. Nevertheless, we had some in the class who took their own approach and created a masterpiece from their own imagination. This is fantastic as having a good time is priority number one, and that goal was accomplished all around. Date: March 5, 2021
Location: Kilroy’s Workshop Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participants: Operation TBI Freedom, Ft. Carson SRU Blacksmithing We had a big group of twelve veterans and one family member attend this month’s fundamentals of blacksmithing class. We confirmed again that having a physical disability is not an obstacle for anyone to have fun and gather with fellow veterans. The Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman made sure everyone understood what to expect from the class and taught us about the history of blacksmithing. Each participant then practiced their skills and created a small knife they were able to take home with them!
