November 24, 2018 Location: Valhalla Hunt Club, Bennett, CO. Hosted By: Valhalla Hunt Club, River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital The sun is out and there is a slight breeze. That's pretty good when you consider it's December in Colorado. We get our group together and head for the upper fields where the trap range is located. We will be tuning up for the pheasant hunt. Beginners and experts all take turns blasting some clays out of the sky. Everyone is ready to head over to the fields and see how they do with the pheasants. We gather the dogs and start out in the grass. The birds pop up, some fly to safety, and some will end up on the dinner table. More importantly, everyone is having a good time being outdoors watching the gun dogs work and the Trac chairs cover the terrain with ease. After the hunt we go back down to the clubhouse for a great lunch. A big thanks to the staff of Valhalla Hunt Club, the volunteers, and Craig Hospital. November 15-17, 2018 Location: Nebraska Hosted By: Dreams of the Wild, River Deep and SCI HOP River Deep and Denver SCI Hop worked with Dreams of the Wild to host a couple of Veterans on a buck deer hunt in Nebraska that included lodging, food and guides. Derek McKune, from Dreams of the Wild led the hunt. It didn't take long for both Vets to harvest some nice deer and plenty of meat for the freezer. It's been a great hunt and weekend. A big thanks to Dreams of the Wild, and everyone who helped and volunteered to make this a memorable outing. Bob Adwar River Deep, President SCI HOP, VP/Humanitarian Chairman ![]()
November 12, 2018 Location: Denver, CO Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital & Operation TBI Freedom River Deep Alliance and Denver SCI Humanitarian Outreach Program launched our first series of art classes with participants from Craig Hospital and Operation TBI Freedom. The classes will be held once a month at the Art Students League of Denver. Our first class is acrylic abstract and the following months will be taught by artist Karen Roehl, who did a great job guiding everyone thru their first painting that participants will take home. Rachel Basye, the director of the school, has made sure this class was a great success and we are all looking forward to the next one. At the end of the class, we were treated to some great barbecue from Jim 'N Nick's - Colorado. A big thanks to everyone who made this a fantastic class and evening. November 1, 2018 Location: Limon, CO Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital Graduates Two Craig Hospital Grads traveled to Limon on Thursday, November 1st, for a 2-day mule deer hunt. One tag was filled by a nice buck just hours after the hunt began and although plenty of deer were observed, the second hunter chose not to shoot. Waiting for that perfect buck that just never came. Both hunters mentioned how much they appreciated all of the hard word that went into making this hunt a reality. One hunter travelled from Montana to shoot that perfect buck while the other, who has traveled internationally to hunt large game before his injury, was able to harvest his first mule deer since his accident! A big thanks to our guides Russell, Brad and Dawson of Russell's Gun & Guide Service.
