Date: October 16, 2021 Location: Kilroy's Workshop, Colorado Springs Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson SRU Blacksmithing It was another amazing time with a small group of two veterans and one staff member learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing this weekend! Our Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman, took his time to make sure everyone understood what to expect from the class. First, they learned a little bit about the history of blacksmithing and put all the skills they learned to practice. For this outing, one of the participants built some hooks for her pet llama at home. Once again everyone had a wonderful time! Date: October 13, 2021 Location: Art Students League of Denver Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom, VA, Craig Hospital Art Class - Narrative Collage We had a great turnout at Art Students League of Denver for their Narrative Collage class! This was the first class back with them since their extended pandemic haitus. Deb Rosenbaum, our instructor, went through the process step by step. The supplies were handed out and everyone began to work on a collage. The instructor encouraged everyone to use their collage to tell a story or a memory of a personal experience. At the end of the class, each participant shared the story behind their collage. It was a wonderful class and we are so happy to be back! Thank you to Deb Rosenbaum and the Art Students League of Denver! Bob Adwar Executive Director, River Deep Foundation Chairman, SCI Humanitarian Outreach Program ![]()
Date: October 12, 2021 Location: USAFA Equestrian Center Hosted by: River Deep Foundation Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Equine Assisted Learning It was another great day at the Air Force Academy Equestrian Center with an amazing group of veterans! We are proud to be working with the VA to bring more clients to these wonderful outings. Today, we welcomed a primary care provider from the VA as a guest to observe and note the impact the session had on her client. As with each session we learned about Equine Assisted Learning and how to perform exercises to cope with stress. Every veteran had time to share how they felt before and after attending the equine assisted learning session. When a participant comes to the day anxious about horses and leaves excited to try riding again, we know that this outing was a meaningful experience. We finished our time with a relaxing hour of horseback riding through the natural beauty of the area. We will have one more session in November before the weather turns and we look forward to next season! We also learned about color mixing, blending, and layering within our paintings. As always, our wonder instructor, Jesse, Preble set the mood with her amazing music featuring a number of oldies and of course, Monster Mash! It was a perfect setting while the participants painted their spooky settings. We had an amazing night, thank you Jesse!
