September 23, 2017 Hosted By: Denver SCI HOP and River Deep Family, Fishing and Fun Day - Fishing, Archery, Lunch. Participants from: Operation TBI Freedom, Freedom Hunters, Craig Hospital Family Fun Day We have five ponds, a 3-D archery course and a beautiful outdoor pavilion at our disposal today on the Colorado Youth Outdoors property. We have a group of wounded vets and their family members as well as patients from Craig Hospital and staff. There are about 60 people in all. Fall has arrived. The day is overcast and chilly but the kids and adults are excited to fish and try some archery. We have plenty of volunteers and instructors for those who need it. It’s close to lunch time and the Escoffier Culinary Academy always does a great job providing food for our hungry participants. Everyone gathers at the pavilion at it’s a good time to get feedback from the Veteran and Craig Hospital participants about this outing and the ones we do year around with the goal of helping the healing process. We want to learn how we can do better to provide help. Thank you to all the groups, volunteers, Colorado Youth Outdoors, Escoffier Culinary Academy and everyone else who contributes to our humanitarian programs. September 9, 2017 Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO Hosted by: Denver SCI HOP and RiverDeep Anglers of Honor program - FlyFishing with Operation TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital and Freedom Hunters Anglers of Honor It’s a beautiful day in the Colorado Mountains, we have a big group of Vets and Craig Hospital patients ready for some fly fishing instruction. Before we hit the river and ponds we break up into small groups with the guides from Anglers of Honor to learn knots, gear and casting. There, we suit up with waders and fly rods and are assigned our guides. Some head to the river and some to the ponds. We have track chairs for those who want to go off road or through the stream. Both large and small trout are caught be we are wanting some for everyone. It’s lunchtime and we head up to the clubhouse and a special lunch prepared by the Escoffier Culinary Academy from Boulder who always do a great job. Great food, guides, weather, fishing, smiles all around and, of course, fish stories. It’s been a great day and a big thanks to everyone who made this possible. We spread out in two man groups next to the corn fields. A few shots are fired bu no doves in the vest. We flushed four pheasant but we will be back in November to to try our luck with bigger birds. We did knock a few birds down before lunch when the sun comes out and the temperature rises but only a few more birds show up. Everyone is still having a great time. Lunch is prepared by Allen, his wife and friend also named Allen. We have pheasant and brats. Great lunch and a great day. A big thanks to Allen and friends. Bob Adwar Humanitarian Chairman |
