July 27-28, 2018 Location: Eleven Mile Reservoir, Lake George, CO. Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Operation TBI Freedom, Ft. Carson WTB, Peterson AFB Eleven Mile Reservoir Camping, Boating, Fishing & Hot Air Ballooning What a weekend! We had almost 100 wounded veteran and family members gathered at Eleven Mile Reservoir for a weekend of camping, boating, fishing, hot air ballooning and an incredible BBQ dinner prepared by Roosters BBQ, the owner is also a wounded veteran. It was some of the best BBQ this group has had, but first we enjoyed boating and fishing. We were in pontoon boats and two Kast King bass boats from our friend Al Noraker, who is a big supporter of our Anglers of Honor program, and he also supplies us with the Anglers of Honor fly rods. The boats stayed busy all afternoon taking everyone for pleasure rides and fishing. As it got close to chow time, everyone gathered at our main campsite as the clouds were also gathering. We had Kansas City Ribs, chicken and all the sides, just fantastic! The rain waited until we were done eating. There was a quick downpour and everyone headed to their tents. After the rain, we had a beautiful rainbow and clear skies which drew everyone out of their tents and back to the camp fire where we roasted marshmallows. It had been a great day and was even better the following day when we rose with the sun and drove about 10 miles into a valley where The Celebration of Honor hot air ballooning took place. There were 15 balloons along with coffee and donuts waiting for our group. We were each assigned a pilot and balloon. This was a family treat, kids and their parents all got a chance to fly. With almost 70 participants, the pilots made multiple flights and it was a phenomenal sight to see all those balloons in the air along with big smiles on all of the passengers. After the flight, we all gathered at the launch site and had lunch prepared by the Ballooning Society of Pikes Peak. They have a ritual which dates back to the beginning of time for all the first time balloon passengers. It's been a great weekend and a big thanks to all the groups that gave their time and caring to help the men and women who have served and their families. Special thanks to Taskforce ISO and their crew for capturing our weekend in photography. A huge thanks to everyone involved with making this weekend so wonderful. July 23, 2018 Location: Meridian Golf Club, Englewood, CO. Hosted By: SCI HOP Meridian Golf Club 2nd Annual Fundraiser for SCI Hop We had a great group of people who are going to smack a little white ball on a grass carpet, or at least it looks like a carpet. The ball always seems to win. Everyone was at the Meridian Golf Club in Englewood for a good time and to support our Humanitarian Outreach Program, which was started almost 20 years ago. We host outings such as fishing, hunting, archery, photography and much more for wounded Vets and individuals with disabilities. 10 wounded Vets from Ft. Carson WTB and Operation TBI Freedom played in our group. The course is beautiful and the weather was perfect. Mike Shur, owner of Meridian Golf Club, is a big supporter and does a great job of making sure everything is perfect for our event, including a fantastic lunch on the patio. It was a wonderful day and a big thanks to all who came out to support our mission. Bob Adwar SCI, VP/Humanitarian Chairman River Deep, President ![]()
July 14, 2018 Location: Lincoln Hills, Blackhawk, CO. Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP Participants: Craig Hospital, Operation TBI, Ft. Carson WTB Anglers of Honor at Lincoln Hills This past Saturday was a wonderful day of fly fishing instruction, fly fishing, and lunch on the deck overlooking the water. Instruction came first, casting, gear and knots. The guides and volunteers all pitched in to help with the instruction. We suited up, got our gear and paired up with the guides. We fished the river and the ponds. The water was low and clear and the trout plentiful. You can see the smiles and hear the screams of excitement in everyone's voices every time a trout is on the line, and there were some big ones being landed. More importantly, we were there for a day of peace and healing, a day outdoors in the mountains. At lunchtime and we had a special treat prepared by the Escoffier Culinary Academy. We gathered on the deck to eat, tell stories and meet new friends. It was a great day and a big thanks to all guides, staff and volunteers. July 7, 2018 Location: Kiowa Creek Sporting Club, Bennett, CO. Hosted By: River Deep and SCI HOP First Annual River Deep Sporting Clay Fundraiser It's Saturday morning, the sun's out and we have a great group of 60 participants to kick off our first sporting clay fundraiser. SCIHop, Operation TBI Freedom, Craig Hospital, Ft. Carson WTB, Task Force ISO, and Victory Service Dogs are all here as they are the primary groups supported by River Deep. We are all here to support our mission to help wounded Vets and individuals with disabilities with year round outings and programs. We start with a light breakfast and the safety talk. We have twelve squads consisting of 4 or 5 shooters per team. We head down to the course as we have both beginners and experts. Even though we all keep score, it's not that important as we are here to have a good time and support a great cause. By 12PM we are all done with the course and head back to the lodge for an amazing lunch prepared by Kiowa Creek Sporting Club. There were discussions on who had the best scores, and we hear from our Vets who have been impacted by our programs. It's been a wonderful day and a big thanks to the Kiowa Creek Sporting Club, and to all the volunteers and participants. Bob Adwar SCI, VP/Humanitarian Chairman River Deep, President ![]()
