Following the instruction, everyone was excited to jump into some waders and start fly fishing with their assigned guides. Fortunately, everyone fly fishing was able to catch a few trout. After a few hours, everyone gathered for a barbecue lunch and a tribute from Anglers of Honor to the veterans in attendance, which included receiving an Anglers of Honor fly rod! Date: June 19, 2021 Location: Kilroy's Workshop, Colorado Springs Hosted by: River Deep & SCIHOP Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson SRU Blacksmithing It was another amazing time with a group of four veterans learning the fundamentals of blacksmithing over Father’s day weekend. Our Master Blacksmith, Ron Hardman, took his time to ensure everyone understood what to expect from the class. First, Ron told the veterans about the history of blacksmithing, then he focused on demonstrating the multitude of skills required to be a blacksmith. Ron guided each participant in creating a knife to take home. All of the knives each participant made in the workshop were beautiful; they would make a great gift! Carson SRU, VA Fly Fishing with Anglers of Honor Today, the Boulder Creek and ponds were crystal clear, making it the perfect day for a fly fishing outing. The day began with an introduction to the fundamentals of fly fishing from our wonderful Anglers of Honor guides. The overview of how to fly fish was great, as most of the veterans in attendance today were fly fishing for their very first time! All of the participants were excited to learn a new skill as well as enjoy the healing aspect of sharing the outdoors with new friends and faces. After a busy morning in the creek, everyone in attendance enjoyed lunch with one another on the deck of the eco center. Everyone was ecstatic to share their fly fishing experiences with one another. All of the participant not only left with a new skill, but also an Anglers of Honor fly rod, so they can fish on their own in the future. Date: June 7, 2021 Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts Hosted by: River Deep & SCIHOP Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom & Ft. Carson SRU Monoprint Art Class A group ten people, six veterans and four of their family members, joined us to learn about Monoprints and Printmaking. Because of the smaller class, everyone had ample opportunity to make as many artworks as they wanted with help from the instructor! We created beautiful, moving monoprints this evening. Everyone created a unique and eye catching artwork they could take home and share with their family and friends. The evening art class was a wonderful and very peaceful way to end the day.
