February 20, 2021 Location: Kilroy’s Workshop, Colorado Springs Hosted by: River Deep Foundation and SCIHOP Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom Another great day at the forge! We had three veterans attend this basic blade smithing class at Kilroy’s Workshop. There were several working groups making Damascus steel and mini-knives, so the veterans were able to see different types of blacksmithing and knives. We are so happy to have this new partnership as this is a popular activity! February 7, 2021 Hosted by: River Deep Foundation and SCIHOP Participating Groups: Operation TBI Freedom and Ft. Carson SRU We are excited to be hosting our first archery outing of the new year! Most of the veterans participating today are new to archery and are looking forward to slinging some arrows. We are using re-curve bows and working on the fundamentals. As always, the RMS staff are helpful and patient in their instruction and guidance. We have had a fun day of learning a new sport, making new friends, and helping the healing process. A big thanks to RMS gear and all the volunteers that made today possible. ![]()
February 1, 2021 Location: Cottonwood Center for the Arts Colorado Springs Participants: Operation TBI Freedom Hosted by: River Deep Foundation & Denver SCI Humanitarian Outreach Program We hosted 6 veterans and 4 of their family members tonight at Cottonwood Center for the Arts! Our instructor Al B Johnson (AB) taught as about the painting style abstract expressionism. We learned about the fundamentals, talked about famous abstract artists and learned several techniques to paint in this genre. After the block of instruction, each student had the chance to apply what they learned, and created two masterpieces of their own. What a fun, creative evening! ![]()
